As I mingled with the crowd and roamed the store watching the models work the crowd and enticing guests with the exquisite bling- bling pieces by Elsa Peretti, I sipped on a French 75. You might think the highlight of the evening would be trying on jewelry or making my mental list of baubles, bangles and beads that I just know someone is dying to buy me someday… but no. Instead, it was clearly my love affair with the French 75 that I enjoyed most. Of course at Tiffany’s one expects the best. So, I could have chosen Christoff Champagne to go with my caviar. But instead, I decided to live on the edge and get out of my box to try something totally different. Girls…you think Cosmo's are tasty, wait till you try the French 75. I have provided the recipe below. Trust me, treat yourself. Make them for your next brunch, cocktail party, 'girls night' at your house or just as a personal indulgence to take the edge off that crazy week at work. (A word of warning. They do have a kick to them that comes on quick so you might want to designate someone else to drive.)
(sometimes known as Louis' 75's)
1 cup lime juice
1 cup gin
2-4 tsp super fine sugar
1 slice lime or orange optional
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the lime juice, gin and sugar. Shake well. Pour into a tall skinny Collins glass or Champagne flute. Top with 1-2 oz. of champagne. Makes 2+ drinks. ENJOY!
(Oh, just one last nugget. Did you know you can buy an 18K gold mesh bra from Elsa Peretti? One of the models wore it under a flowing red silk jacket. Of course there was no price tag on it. And clearly one size does not fit all. So I can only conclude that you must pay by the cup. If you want one call Tiffany's on the Plaza and I am sure they can order one just your size.)
